Last week a coin collector in Spain reported finding a 2017-dated 1 euro coin on which the lettering "Sin Rey" (Without king) was countermarked, on one of the Facebook groups. The phrase is being used by groups advocating for the abolishment of the monarchy in Spain. Although the image is unfortunately of poor quality, the find of a countermark related to politics on a euro coin is extremely unusual so therefore I decided to post about it here.

Good fun. There can't be many of them, as the letters were applied one by one, so they are a drag to make. Wait till some eBay troll finds out a common coin can be turned into an interesting one with some letter punches :-\

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
