Mysore Medical College and Research Institute was founded by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, whose portrait features on the Mysore University commemorative coin. It holds the distinction of being the first medical college established in the Karnataka region (then Mysore State) and the seventh in India. Renowned for its academic excellence, the Government Medical College in Mysuru continues to rank among the top medical institutes in the country.
