The Falkland Islands will soon issue a coloured 50p coin for Christmas. Only 1,000 pieces will be minted. Both sides were designed by Glyn Davies. The coin will be minted by Tower Mint.

Nothing yet on the Falkland Islands collectibles web site from port Stanley, I buy all my falklands coins from him.

As Mrs. Thatcher might have said: "Just REJOICE at that news!"

So come on, you English penguin-eaters, own up! Which of you will be buying this latest penguin heptagon?

I believe this coin has in the meantime sold out. Clients of the Westminster Collection were given early access to order the entire mintage. All pieces appear to have been sold in no time.

Strange that Phil Middleton of Falkland Islands collectibles has never heard of the coin. He is the only coin dealer on the islands

The 50p coin is now also available in non-coloured version, as well as a 2 pounds coin with the same design. Both are minted in BU quality. The 50p has an edition limit of 5,000 pieces and the 2 pounds coin an edition limit of 2,500 pieces. On this page they are available as a combi deal.

Furthermore a coloured proof version is now available in sterling silver here. It has an edition limit of 500.

What is strange for me is the shape of snowflakes: all are similar on the coins and I was always learned that possibility to easily find two exactly the same snowflakes shapes is close to zero.
