In recent months, Royal Dutch Mint is ramping up its capacity for the production of circulation coins. Coins are now being minted again day and night. This is related to an increase in orders for circulation coins. The increase seems to be caused by the nearing closure of Mint of Finland and the decision of The Royal Mint and possibly also the South African Mint, to stop minting circulation coins for foreign countries.

Any idea who ordered?

I am wondering what is the break even point for this activity. It seems that even decently sized customer portfolio like this of the Royal Mint may produce significant operating loses on the circulation business. With the automation of the process there is not much disadvantage to the high income countries as local salaries and services does not factor significantly in the total costs. It looks vs like the excessive competition has lead to dumping pricing.
