The partners in the Grand Numismatic Alliance have agreed to exchange information on discovery coins, dates and varieties. The agreement has been tested and found to be working and valuable in practice.

It started with Maythem posting a nice 19th century (AD) Iranian silver coin. It turned out to be an unlisted variety. I notified the Zeno and Numista site owners. Both reacted enthusiastically with a posting notification. Maythem's coin quickly appeared on Zeno (338732) and Numista (427644), in both cases with reference to source and poster.

So there you have it. Maythem's discovery was shared in a decent way. He lost nothing, but we all won something. An interesting discussion in which real experts confirmed that the coin is a newly discovered variety has resulted in a catalogue entry for collectors, so that collectors will not miss it when working on such Iranian coins and a data base listing for researchers and academics, so it will not be overlooked and be properly referenced in research. The links enable easy access to the background and environment of this coin.

We need to tie up some small loose ends and make sure the process is systematic, but the principle works and adds value.

So here is an appeal to all members: if in the past you have posted a discovery type, date or variety and it is not in Numista or Zeno, please drop me a PM and we'll take appropriate action. Thank you in the name of collectors and researchers!

Our cooperation is bearing fruit. Here is an unlisted coin from Zeno. Enjoy!
