Recently I came across a small variant on the 1 pound coin of the Falkland Islands of 2020. Some pieces depict a smaller and narrower coat of arms. This can amongst other things be recognized by the top left corner of the coat of arms not touching the outer ring, and the significantly smaller area above the coat of arms. This design version was also used for the product visual that was used by Pobjoy Mint at the time. It later seems to have been corrected.

I don't think it's the coat of arms that's different.  It's the outer ring that appears to be thicker in the second photo. In the top photo, the inner disc starts directly under the "One Pound" whereas in the bottom photo there's a gap.

Or it's simply that the inner disc is more central in the bottom photo.  Notice the "Desire The Right" ribbon starts almost directly under the inner disc in the second photo but with a gap in the first.

Therefore it's not the actual coat of arms design that's different, just differences in the placing of the inner disc (or the design on the two colours).

Having said all that, and looking again, the two designs are different.  The wavy lines (water) coming out of the top of the ship are not present on the second photo, and there are other difference, unless it's just the lighting.

The lines are there, just not visible in the photo due to bad lighting. Maybe indeed for a part of the mintage different blanks were used with a smaller core/thicker outer ring.

There's definitely a difference between the top of the ship and the sheep though!
