For the first time, a commemorative 2 euro coin was also issued in reverse proof quality. On reverse proof coins, the elevated surfaces of the coin are mirror finish, while the background is matte. The coin was issued by Monnaie de Paris and commemorates the Paris Olympic Games.

On a more practical level, this coin - but not this version - has been nationally distributed to school children in a certain age bracket in an open enveloppe with a brochure on the Olympic games. My youngest granddaughter got one of them and allowed me to inspect it. :-*

The gifts of the government are in an open enveloppe. The coin is in a holder; it can easily be taken out. On social media it was reported that the set sold for €600. This is of course quite credible. The coin can be easily identified by the little chocolate fingerprints on it :wicked:

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I wondered which church we see right of the Eiffel tower.
It is the Notre Dame de la Garde in Marseille.
