There is an indication that Croatia may make a change to the designs of its standard euro coin series. A document, the title of which seems to suggest this, was yesterday submitted to the Council of the European Union.

No idea which design or designs they will partially(?) change. So far only the title of the document is known. My contacts in Croatia also had no information about this.

The National Bank of Croatia has informed me that they have no plans to change one or more of the designs on its circulation euro coins. The description that the Council of the European Union uses for the letter that was submitted by Croatia seemed to suggest this.

However, I believe that my initial thought that the document is about a 2 euro commemorative coin is probably going to turn out to be correct, even if the Council normally does not use this description for documents concerning the approval of 2 euro commemorative coins. When the approval of commemorative 2 euro coins is being published in the Official Journal of the EU however, the title of that document is very similar to the description that is being used for this one. So, quite possibly just sloppy work of the Council of the European Union that caused confusion amongst numismatists.

It has now been confirmed that the document is about a 2 euro commemorative coin.
