From the legends, nicely translated on Numista, it is clear that this is not a token, but a souvenir medal on Chulalongkorn (Rama V). While it doesn't say explicitly on which occasion it was issued, it mentions three dates.

I have found nothing significant on 1877.
In the year 1885, Chulalongkorn abolished the office of vice king, that was the real power in the country, replacing it with the office of the crown prince of Siam, according to European usage. The last vice king was the principal obstacle to the modernisations and reforms Chulalongkorn wanted,
During 1885, the Thai army was thoroughly modernised, after a defeat at the hands of the Haw, a rebel group backed by China. It obtained modern weapons and training, resulting in the defeat of the Haw.

Chulalongkorn was popular for such modernisations and reforms, but they were controversial in circles of Thai nobility, who lost sources of income and power. Perhaps this is the reason the medal's legend is oblique.
