Thanks, Bagerap. These pieces are common in brass with no trace of silver. Yours looks like copper?

Last time I found a £2 fake the outer edge was gold painted - this one has no paint...
Another "home produced" die too.

Interesting.  What reinforces your belief that it is fake, because if it is it is a very good one indeed.

They put in the fake more detail than the mint does  :o

The date is too big also - and barely fits between the pattern around the edge.
It's a new engraving - not copied from a coin as they usually are.

What if you define the gap away, rather than fill it with a fake? Any French town government knows how to define a pothole so that it's no longer a pothole.
