Ascension Island: 50 pence Saint George and the Dragon 2024

Ascension Island has authorized the release of a silver 50 pence coin depicting Saint George and the Dragon. The reverse of the piece, shown below, was designed by the American artist Joel Iskowitz.

When I was on ascension in 1982 they never had their own currency but instead used the st Helena/ascension islands coins or US dollars as ascension in basically one big airbase for the USAF. And a dockyard for the Royal Navy

I don't think any silver 50p will ever reach Ascension. It will probably be sold way above par only so it wouldn't circulate anywhere. The design is meant to attract those who agreed with the Sun when it campaigned to keep Britannia on UK coins and who still haven't learned that one doesn't get rich quickly.
