I got this with another coin I was after, it  weighs 6.66g  23mm

I can see silver coins like this under Hermaios so wondering if this is a contemporary forgery etc or did they issue copper of the same type?  Nothing about the coin shows anything particularly dodgy however. It looks exactly like the soapy soft look of the numerous Yaudhiya units I have that have no sharp edges to the lettering

I think it is a modern cast from a tetradrachm, very fuzzy details and pitting visible both sides. The weight appears light as well: my rather eroded specimen weighs 7.68 gm, 26.5 mm and I believe even that is underweight.

The metal looks as if it is trying to imitate base silver rather than being a copper or bronze fraction.

Your probably right Alan,  the colour has come out wrong from my camera as it's very coppery looking in hand, I've looked for tell tale signs of casting on the edge but appears to be no evidence of filing or anything

Hello,
In my opinion too, it really looks like a modern fake.

There are quite some late and posthumous contemporary imitations of Hermaios coinage.
However, i would agree the soapy surfaces here more looks like the fabrications offered in recent times notably from Pakistan and Cyprus.

I've retaken the photo in natural light so it shows it's true colour and put it on zeno to get opinions as to whether it's a modern fake or contemporary copy, there are quite a few copper ones on there.  Edit:  Seems it's a modern copy as predicted  >:D

Color looks nicer, but i still have to vote fake. But luckily, you probably did not pay any significant amount for this one.

No, I bought the small lot of 3 unidentified coins for £9.50 to get the rare Gujarat Falus I posted yesterday, 3rd coin was yet another Kushan standing figure with Nandi

The coin I posted on zeno had one reply saying modern fake but it's now been moved to Posthumous Hermaeus section.
