Saint Helena and Ascension have introduced a standard circulating 12-sided 1 pound coin. The coin is dated 2022 and depicts the late Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

It is interesting that the pieces are being released only now.

Let's compare it to the previous pound coins.

We see that the new coin has no denticles.

Coin dealers appear to not yet have it available for sale.

Is there any update on this since 11 November?

I am still not aware of any official coin dealers selling this coin. I only know of someone on social media who has acquired hundreds of pieces, and sells them on there. Maybe someone else can provide information about real coin dealers that have this piece available for sale.

And there are only around 4500 islanders on St. Helena, so isn't there going to be a shortage?

There's a US military base on Ascension, so they probably mainly use the US dollar there, not the local currency.

Do you know what the micro-text near the rim says (obverse and reverse) ?

Just "One Pound" twice on each of the 12 sides on the obverse, and the date on each side on the reverse.
