Quiz Question No.9
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:44:14 AM »
I'm not sure if I won the last one or not, but in case I did and you are all waiting for another question -here is question no.9.

Just 5 6 countries have issued circulation coins bearing the denomination 5000 since 1935, which countries are they?

(I appreciate we could strech the terms of circulation a bit, but hey, I might learn something new :))

Hmm, I just checked these three, and none of them is or ever was a circulation coin ...

I am guessing Japan, Brazil, Mexico will be among them.

Surprisingly not Japan, Mexico only briefly in 1988.
Brazil during the 1930's, but arguably not recently - everytime the coins got too small in value they had a redenomination.  I'm not sure if the 1992 5000 Cruzeiros actually circulated or not, but for this question the 5000 Reis 1936-1938 suffices.

I can't find any proof that the Colombian 5000 Pesos 1998 actually circulated ....
So that one can be crossed off ....

The Colombian 5000 Pesos I don't think was released at all, either as a circ or a collector piece.
The 1000 Pesos has now been replaced by a banknote too!

So we have the following,

5000 - Brazil 1936-1938 (1992?), Mexico 1988, Mozambique 1998, Romania 2002-2003, Turkey 1992-1999 and the one I forgot :-[ - Vietnam 2003

10000 - Mozambique 2003, Romania 1947, Turkey 1994-1999

25000 - Romania 1946, Turkey 1995-2004

50000 - Turkey 1996-2004

100000 - Romania 1946, Turkey 1999-2004

250000 - Turkey 2002-2004

We also have a winner (Spabreda) who's task it now befalls to think of question no.10
