The quality of the 1 euro coins of Austria dated 2023 is exceptionally low. Only the coins minted for general circulation seem to be affected, as the pieces minted for coin sets are of good quality. The issues affect the obverse of the coin. Most notably the signature of Mozart is partially or completely missing. Furthermore several of the facial features are missing as well as design details of the clothing and Austrian flag. It is remarkable that this happens at the Austrian Mint as this is not a mint known for low quality products. Although the first pieces with the issue were noticed at the beginning of the year, it is now becoming more apparent that a signficant amount of pieces is affected. The coins are of such substandard quality that they should not have passed quality control. It remains unknown what caused the issue.

Strike quality cannot be so bad, its seems to be deliberately done, the edges are not worn at all, whereas the portrait is completely worn, seems like a fake coin racket!!

It looks to me as if the press was probably set on too low pressure for that batch, so the details are not properly struck up. Not the sort of error one expects from a properly run mint.
