Hi thoughts on this die and identification thankyou

Seeker55

I see a date of 1247 at the top. Although I didn't see a match in a quick search in Zeno, the style seems to be that of Qajar during the rule of Fath Ali. Here are some examples similar in style.

On the die, the thingy sticking out above the third digit is part of the decoration, rather than the number. If so, 1227 or 1228?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

THCoins

Mint name reads Peshawar. I'd think Barakzai dynasty of Afghanistan.

saro

Yes, from bottom to top, it reads : "zarb Peshawar Julus sanah + date"
I wonder if the date couldn't be 1227, with an ornament on the second digit "2" which then looks like a "4" ?
so, it could be a reverse die of a rupee of Shah Shuja al-Mulk, Durrani ruler at Peshawar and Kashmir in 1227-28 AH and of whom Peshawar rupees are known.

Figleaf

Brilliant as always, THCoins/saro! How do you keep it up?

The next question is fake or genuine? Remember that the vast majority of dies found "in the wild" are for fakes.

Regarding fake or genuine mint die: style of engraving is quite nice.
Next observe the centering. That holds the answer.

Figleaf

Quite right. I'd spotted that, but the dime didn't fall. Fake.

Dear Desibot, the coin of the die is well explained in this link:

Coin collecting has a curious name. It is also called the "Hobby of Kings".
