Hello,

In the "Monnaies Françaises de Gadoury" book issued in 2011, I haave seen a note (see photo * below) saying that the announced number of some coins of 100 Francs 1865 et 1868 A was not the real mintage.
According to this book a part of mintage of 1866 (9041 here) was minted in fact with the date of 1865 (the same for 1868A)
I don't find this information elsewhere including in the "Le Francs - Argus des monnaies françaises" book issued in 1999  Do you have any information about that ?

Thank you in advance.

I know nothing about the question, but I have further information. In 2016, a group of WoC members met over lunch with Laurent Comparot of CGB, where the authors of "Le Franc" hail from. He explained to us that the book is based on research in original sources and how further information had been arrived at through statistical analysis of CGB sales over a sufficiently long period.

There are in fact a number of footnotes on the type in general in my (2012) edition of "Le Franc". The note on the 1865 date with a mintage of 1517 pieces is: 551/5: la fréquence d'apparition de ce millésime correspond à une frappe de l'ordre de 5.000 exemplaires, probablement à répartir avec 1866A - the frequency of this date turning up corresponds to a minting of around 5,000 copies, probably comprised in the mintage for 1866A.
