Next year the Swiss Shooting Sport Federation (SSV/FST) will celebrate its 200th anniversary. And a Swiss 20 CHF silver coin will honor that 2024 event ... in 2023. ;)

The SSV/FST is an "umbrella" organization that was created in 2001 but has a 200 year tradition; you can read more about it here (French, German). The silver coin (Ag 9999) will be issued on 2 June, in two versions: The BU piece (mintage 15,000) will cost 30 CHF, the proof piece (mintage 5,000) costs 79 CHF. The proof version can also be had with a certificate signed by the artist – mintage 250 only, and that costs 90 CHF.

The design, by Vito Noto, combines a traditional design (on the side with the face value) and a modern, fairly abstract one. The latter is a mix of an eye and a target disk, and the abbreviated name of the organization.

The design points at a fairly new development in Switzerland. Roughly 20 years ago, the collector coin designs were "simplified" – they got one common side (with the face value etc.) that was the very same for all issues. This has changed again, at least for the silver coins. Swissmint introduced the "Eidgenössische Sondermünzen" last year, see here.

The bimetallic 10 CHF pieces continue to have one issue-specific image side while the other side is identical for all issues. The silver 20 CHF coins, however, now offer more variety again: The image side is issue specific anyway, but the side with the face value also shows "theme related" elements. :)

This is the 20 CHF coin honoring the "Klein Matterhorn" cable car connection between Zermatt, CH and Cervinia, IT. In this case the stylized Matterhorn on the value side has been used before, but it still is issue specific.

Next month (as from 1 July 2023) Swissmint will issue silver and gold coins dedicated to 175 years of the Federal Constitution. So far I have only seen images of the value side, but that may be my fault. ;) See the attached picture below.

The silver coin (20 g, Ag 9999) has a face value of 20 fr, the gold piece with the same design (11.29 g, Au 900) is a 50 fr coin. Mintages: silver 10,000 (unc) and 4,250 (proof), gold 5,000 (proof). All coins will be surcharged.

The two coins were designed by Peter Salzmann: the value sides show the Swiss CoA, the image sides an "artistic representation" of the constitution's preamble.
