COUNTRIES WITHOUT THEIR OWN OFFICIAL CURRENCY

Most countries have their own official currency.

A smaller number of countries are official members of a currency union.

Countries that do not have their own official currency are known as "dollarised" countries.

That is because most of those countries use the US dollar.

However, some use the Australian dollar or the euro.

"Dollarised" is just the general term that is applied to them.

For the purpose of coin collectors, dollarised countries can be split into two groups:

1] Dollarised countries with their own coins.

2] Dollarised countries without their own coins.

#1
COUNTRIES AND TERRITORIES THAT USE THE AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR

Nauru, Kiribati, and Tuvalu use the Australian dollar.

They do not have their own national currency.

Kiribati and Tuvalu each had their own currency from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Those currencies are now defunct.

COUNTRIES AND TERRITORIES THAT USE THE NEW ZEALAND DOLLAR

The Realm of New Zealand encompasses the three autonomous jurisdictions of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and Niue.

The Cook Islands, and Niue, use the New Zealand dollar.

New Zealand's one dependent territory, Tokelau, also uses the New Zealand dollar.

The British overseas territory of the Pitcairn Islands also uses the New Zealand dollar.

#2
COUNTRIES THAT USE THE US DOLLAR

The following countries are dollarised: they use the US dollar as their sole currency.

1] The Marshall Islands
2] The Federated States of Micronesia
3] Palau
4] Ecuador
5] El Salvador
6] Panama
7] Timor Leste

Anomalously, Ecuador, Panama and Timor Leste do however still issue their own coins.

I have been told that  no US coins circulate in Timor Leste.

Both US and Panamanian coins circulate in Panama.

TERRITORIES THAT USE THE US DOLLAR

Some territories, which are not sovereign states, use the US dollar as their sole currency.

British oversea territories.

1] British Virgin Islands.

2] Turks and Caicos Islands.

The Caribbean Netherlands.

The Caribbean Netherlands comprise three public bodies (special municipalities).

They special municipalities of the Netherlands that are located in the Caribbean Sea.

They all use the US dollar as their sole currency.

They consist of the islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.

However, the term "Caribbean Netherlands" can sometimes refer to all the islands in the Dutch Caribbean.
