Hi friends

I got my Braille & Gur Ta Gaddi from Hyderabad yesterday. That means dealers have not won the race this time ;D .

These are beautiful coins at a measely sum.(Aur kya bacchhey ki jaan loge 150 bucks me  ;D ). The quality of polish of planchet, depth of strike as well as clarity of strike is superb. The Braille coin is in sharp contrast to the shoddy mintage of other Ferrite Stainless Steel coins - specially 'University in Diversity' and 'Information & IT'. The FSS coins of Unity & IT theme are very badly struk - impression is rarely clear -specially the lion emblem is seledom visible. Many times, lines on the obverse side are broken. I noticed that quality of kolkata is very bad.

Kudos to Hyderabad mint - their delivery is also very fast. I hope Hyderabad will bring out more commemoratives and take the load of others - like Kolkata.

I wonder if the Hyderabad mint will take more bookings. One month was too short a time period.

Hello Sanjay,
congrats on the wonderful news... now kindly share some pics of this... for those of us (read me) who have not invested in these coins would atleast have the viewing pleasure  :D

Thx.

PS: if any one else who is sticking to collecting india coins from circulation does manage find any of these new pieces do let me know as it will build up my hopes to find them too.

Braille from Calcutta mint is apparently found in circulation in West Bengal. Finding it elsewhere would be a surprise. I don't know if the Guru Granth coin will appear in circulation as a business strike. I heard rumours but nothing substantiated.

Mumbapuri,

Abhay has already uploaded scans of Gur Ta Gaddi and Braille.

If you missed the booking deadline - dont worry. Short delivery period suggests that mint has produced the coins before taking the orders. There is likely to be a mismatch between number of bookings and production. I think they must have some unsold stock with them. Please take the phone number of Hyderabad mint from their website and have a word with them. They might help you specially since its their first commemorative issue.

Mumbapuri,
The Rs 10 coins Gur Ta Gaddi is, I understand, NCLT. It may never be available in circulation. Price for these sets in the north is quite high as the demand for them from Punjab is great.

Mumba,
I don't think that the recent Indian commemoratives will ever turn up in circulation. Those golden days are over :(

I called up Hyderabad mint a couple of weeks back and asked them if the bookings are still open. Apparently they are still accepting orders. I sent mine the same day but haven't heard from them since. Given that you booked in Nov and you still haven't got it, I think I have a long wait ahead of me :)

For other latecomers like me, it would be prudent to call them before sending the DD. The number is in the PDF form.

MS, Aditya, Mumba,

Say thanx to me... I suggested (7 Jan 10) that Hyderabad might not have closed the booking HA HA HA. But on a serious note, one of you could talk to them and update all of us vis this board.

One thing more, when I initially posted the news of these coins(Nov 09), most of you were reluctant to shell out 150 bucks! Now I see a mad scramble for them. Frankly speaking, I feel that 150 bucks are reasonable for these beautiful coins. First of all Rs 10 Gur Ta Gaddi is not for circulation...on top of it, your coins will have the elusive star of Hyderabad!!

Sone pe suhaga.
