Last year Switzerland issued a 20 fr collector coin dedicated to singer-songwriter Mani Matter. He primarily sang in Swiss German. Among the musicians who influenced him was George Brassens. In 1972 he died in a car accident on his way to a concert, at the age of 36. Wikipedia has a fairly long article in German about him; there is also a short one in English. One side of the coin shows his portrait and a guitar; the other side features an face and a bird (drawings by Mani Matter) and parts of lyrics and notes of "Dr Alpeflug". Here is another one of his songs, "I han es Zündhölzli azündt" (I lit the match). Audio only.

What I find interesting about the coin is that Swissmint apparently went away from the somewhat boring "one design fits all" concept for the side with the country name and the face value. At least for the silver and gold coins, that side is now a combination of common and specific elements. The Solar Energy coin "deserves" three images, as one side is colored and fluorescent. Note that for the silver coins, Swissmint went from Ag 835 (Solar Energy) to Ag 999 (Mani Matter). The gold piece, with a "Time" theme, is Ag 900.

While I am at it ... why not add the other 2022 collector coins too? The bimetallic 10 fr coin features the Morteratsch Glacier. Then we have a 25 fr platinum piece with the theme "platinum". Those coins still have the "generic" obverse. And finally there is a 50 fr gold coin commemorating the 100th anniversary of the last issue of the Vreneli 10 fr gold coin ... hmm. ;)  All Swiss collector coins are surcharged by the way. Those that are not sold out yet can be ordered here.
