Ahmedabad - rupees in the name of Alamgir II, RY3 and 4, issued during the last 'Mughal' stint: the occupation of the city by Noor ud-din Momin Khan II, the Nawab of Khambayat, outwardly on behalf of the Mughal emperor.

Due to various reasons, too intricate to be outlined here, the power of Momin Khan grew considerably during 1755-56. In Muharram of AH1170, he dispatched a small but incisive army under the command of Agha Rashid Beg on Ahmedabad and they were able to drive out the Maratha garrison from the city. On 22 Muharram 1170 (17 Oct 1756), Momin Khan himself arrived in Ahmedabad.

The Peshwa, Balaji Bajirao, was furious at this impertinence and sent a large force under the command of Sadashiv Ramchandra to retrieve the city. The Marathas besieged the city for nearly a year, starting from 7 January 1757. In the meantime, Momin Khan's old adversary, the Afghan Jawanmard Khan Babi also joined the Marathas. Momin Khan made an appeal to the Emperor to appoint him the Subahdar of Gujarat with a nazar of 20,000 rupees - but as the Emperor was merely a puppet in hands of the Marathas (and Raghunath Rao, the brother of the Peshwa, himself present in  Delhi), this sum did not bring forth any results!
Momin Khan finally surrendered; he was allowed to go back to Khambayat by the Marathas but he had to surrender the port of Ghogha to them and also agree to pay 50% of revenue share of his own fiefdom of Khambayat. On 18 Jumada-II 1171 (27 Feb 1758) the Marathas re-entered Ahmedabad under the command of Sadashiv Ramchandra and Damaji Gaikwad.

The coins struck during this occupation conspicuously omit the 'Ankush' mark of Maratha affinity, in 'Seen' of 'Julus' and replace it with a floral mark, as had been the practice in Mughal rule before the Marathas occupied the city.

Since this is a discussion forum with most collectors being interested in the when and why of things, it would be interesting if you could elaborate.........
