Ghana has issued a new 1 cedi coin. With a similar design, new coin is a bit smaller and a bit heavier, it also includes a latent image and has the ring and center colors swapped.

It will circulate alongside the current version from Monday, 12.

The same boring design again. Saving the image also here.

Beauty ... eye ... beholder. 8) Now I wonder why the inner and outer part swapped colors. Might there be change to come for the 2 cedi coin as well? Hmmm.

Wasn't me. In fact, I have it right here (see attached image), from the press release that Jostein posted. As for the size, "going smaller" makes sense. Don't know what coins actually circulate in Ghana, but the old ₵1 coin was pretty big, almost 28 mm - while the ₵2 coin is only 26.5 mm. The new diameter of the 1 cedi piece is 26 mm.

Weight went up from 7.3 g to 8.23 g. Still quite a bit less than the 10 grams that the 2 cedi coin has. Also, the new milled or serrated edge of the 1 cedi coin (vs the decagonal ₵2) will help keeping the two apart, even though the "color zones" (silverish pill, golden ring) are now the same.
