I like the design of this one.

Although having a silver-coloured finish, it is ferrous (attracted by magnet) and is about 27mm diameter.

EDIT: Rev. rotated 180° and title changed.

Sorry, don't like it that way up, it looks top-heavy.

Thanks for the details.

If I'm not wrong, the inscription on reverse reads : al-Jumhuriya(t) al-Arabiya(t) as-Suriya(t),while the text near the denomination shows mint name, but not very sure.Catalog also mentions that those coins struck at Paris mint have a privy mark only, does anyone know what is that privy mark?

Thanks numismatica. This is already difficult to read for me. Wikipedia translates the text as Syrian Arab Republic.

The marks of the "directeur de la monnaie" and the chief engraver are only on coins marked (a) in KM. For instance, the marks on the picture of KM 75 on both sides of the denomination can be found in the introductory part of the chapter on France.

Note to numismatica: "privy mark only" is incorrect. The coins show both the marks of the "directeur de la monnaie" and the marks of the chief engraver.

Thanks for the correction,Peter.Syria has an interesting history, but it's not well represented on its coins,I think. ::)

Again, we're learning from a coin that cost only a couple of pennies.   The simple things in life ...

Sometimes I think that we tend to ignore 'everyday' coins, and that is why I prefer to collect Circulation strikes rather than Proofs. etc.   The few foreign ones that I have obtained recently are very unlikely to include any that are rare, and as I find the origins of them they are being passed to a relation.

Please keep the discussion going, as there must be much more that this coin could tell us if it could speak.
