Nice specimen, in marginally better shape (in particular the reverse) than the plate coin in Gomes.

One story about Pedro II is in the last paragraph of this post. More significant is that Dom Pedro II initiated an alliance with Britain that lasted 200 years and brought Wellington to Portugal for the Peninsular campaign. The alliance ended with the Pink map affair that could have been solved in a more diplomatic way.
