½d to 4d   INDEX TO SMALL SILVER COINS WITH ILLUSTRATIONS

This index covers the small Silver coins of ½d, 1d, 1½d, 2d, 3d, 4d and Maundy Money and is also an attempt to show what was issued during each reign in a simple format.   Some issues are considered 'for the colonies', but I intend to cover all the coins here.   Proofs are not listed.   Detailed entries commence with The Coinage Act of 1816.

The links (in red, you can 'click' on them) show year, denomination and possibly the letters 'C' (Circulation coins) or 'M' (Maundy coins) and some of the 4d will show a 'B' denoting that they are Circulation coins with Britannia on the reverse rather than the usual numeral.

Please bear with me on the above index.   It is very much a 'work in progress' and some of the subjects haven't even been started yet.

Rest assured, I'm working on it although it will probably take quite a while before it becomes useful.   It will never be finished!

I think that you'll get the idea of how I'm arranging it, but if you have any suggestions please let me know.

For the index to go straight to the coin concerned, it would be useful if only a single coin is shown in each post, although it doesn't really matter as the reader can scroll down.   It is useful to me if the heading of the individual post shows the year and denomination rather than the general subject heading.

I hope that you find it useful.

Looking at this index only a couple of days after I started it, I am impressed with how much we've achieved in such a short time.

It is rapidly becoming a potted history of these coins and most (for the ones covered in individual subjects so far) are illustrated.

Thank you all for your help with this.   More pictures will always be welcome in the appropriate topics, but please try not to post any before the narrative for the coins that you want to show.   If you know that you will want to add any in the future, please let me know and I will make certain that I have a sub-heading to reference them under in due course.

My system, as I start work on another King or Queen, is to read up all I can, making rough notes.   I then add the appropriate sub-headings here to give an suitable descriptiion.   When I am ready to write the narrative for one of the coin headings, I can copy my sub-headings from here to save a lot of further work as I only have to write a short piece to go with them.   I then add what illustrations I can and ask for more to fill any gaps.   The final stage is to reference new illustrations here which brings us full circle.

If you have any comments on this index, please post a message here or contact me privately.

A final request.   Please do not post pictures here!

I've shown the index in detail only from The Coinage Act 1816, as I don't think that detailed entries will be practical before that date.   If you have any questions about coins before (or after) then, just ask.

I hope that you find the index useful, and I will continue to add links as illustrations are posted in the appropriate coin topics.

The index has now been brought up to date.

Hopefully, I should be able to continue some of the details of these coins before long.
