To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, Pobjoy Mint has issued a commemorative 50p coin on behalf of the Falkland Islands. The coin is available for pre-order in copper-nickel diamond finish with an issue limit of 2,700 pieces and in silver proof with an issue limit of 170 pieces. The piece depicts on its reverse the Mary Gillick portrait alongside Pobjoy Mint's own portrait of H.M. the Queen. Orders will be sent out from June 20.

It appears that the coin has not been gazetted yet, as of 14 June.

It is interesting how the piece issued for the Platinum Jubilee differs from the one issued for her death. Not only the dates were inserted but also the portraits are significantly smaller on the latter piece. This in contrary to the product images that were used for the coin to commemorate her death, which depict large portraits.

I just noticed that I had two different versions of the standard (not black) version. First one bough directly from Pobjoy just after the issue. Second one are with smaller busts of Queen, without DA die marks...
It looks, that there were two different dies used for production od these coins. The second one with added die mark and double date was probably used also for black version.

That sounds very interesting. Could you please upload a photo of the version with the smaller portraits that you have? And where did you obtain that piece?

I bought this coin via eBay few months ago if I correctly remember. Coin in original mint card.

Edit: I bought it directly from Pobjoy with the last purchase before they close. From eBay I bought the Black version with dates.

Very nice find. It remains the only known piece so far. Maybe a trial strike that somehow ended up being sold.

I have just received a delivery of 2 small effigy version coins, reported by MCz.

Difficult to verify how common they are, as many online sellers use the Pobjoy stock images in their listings.

I have certainly seen also one more Ebay UK auction where one piece of this version was sold.

So, there are at least 4 pieces existing.

The funny thing is that I discovered it by hazard, when I planned to sell my duplicates and checked my 50p in cards to see the die marks (as I noticed that some of Gibraltar coins in cards are with DA, DB or DC). Than I realized that all three my pieces are different (third one is black).
