I recently added Hormazd IV to my collection to keep Khorsu II company. 2nd of many Sassanian coins I hope!

Can someone help me confirm the ruler as Hormazd IV and while I know where to look for the date & mint mark, I need help identifying them.

Silver/ 4.13g / 32.8mm

Thank you very much for the assist(s).

Yes, Hormazd IV, mint is BBA, court or itinerant with king. I am rather puzzled by the date though. It can only be 1-13, but the most likely seems to me to be yr 7 with the 'b' written with the bottom stroke to the right rather than the left, but I could be totally wrong.

I find http://grifterrec.rasmir.com/coins.html very useful for Sasanian (and many other early Asian coins). He has good pages on the dates http://grifterrec.rasmir.com/sasania/sas_mint/dp/sas_date_table.html and mints http://grifterrec.rasmir.com/sasania/sas_mint/sas_mint_table.html as well.

I gave it a soft cloth & soapy water touch-up - and a closer look at the date. Thanks again everyone for the look!Date close up.jpg

Ah yes!, It IS a '7', but the little weak patch (at lower centre in your new image) fooled me.

The mint is highly likely to be BYSh (Bishapur), slightly crudely engraved.
Ref: Zeno-158527, Zeno-49613 (same year) and Zeno-133466 (for a similarly crudely engraved mint initials)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
