It is a Swedish decoration, the Grand Cross breast star of the Order of the Polar Star. It is not a military medal. I can not comment on authenticity. This version of the Grand Cross breast star was issued from 1871. There are possibly hallmarks located in the encircled area, though these were not included in all years. If they are there, try to make some close-up photos of them.
