Spain 2011 - Alhambra 2 Euro
« on: December 30, 2009, 09:17:43 PM »
This page...

http://pulifil.wordpress.com/2009/12/30/espana-2e-cc-2011-alhambra-generalife-y-el-albaicin-granada/

is perhaps implying that Annovi Frizio will have a 2 Euro design used by Spain.... but perhaps the page is just using the image being as this design Annovi did is Alhambra and 2011.

Does anyone know more about this ?

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

Guess the blog just uses frizio's design. Yes, that design looks interesting - after all, the pill of a €2 coin cannot capture the entire Alhambra anyway. So why not focus on a characteristic detail?

However, the actual coin will look different, I think. The Córdoba piece does not have any explanatory text, so I think the Granada coin won't have any either (or hardly any). Let's wait a few more months. ;)

"PS" - The link to the government bulletin is nevertheless interesting: "Los años siguientes se emitirán monedas con los bienes españoles de acuerdo con el siguiente orden: año en que el bien fue incluido en la Lista y, si esta fecha coincidiera, según el número de inscripción del bien." So we can indeed expect the pieces to be issued in (more or less) this order ...

Here are some decorative elements from the Alhambra I liked enough to take pictures of.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Some nice photos there. :) I have been to Granada twice so far, and both times also visited the Alhambra. The combination of architecture and "nature" (water, gardens) is just gorgeous. So yes, the coin could feature one of these motifs, or maybe a famous "iconic" part such as the Patio de los Leones ...

It seems that we will have to wait a few weeks (end of January or February) for the Córdoba coin to be released. No news still at "Banco de España" desk about the exact issue date.

And some months more to see the official design (although Frizio's designs are as good as ever :) ).

On the same blog we can check that they have decided the subject for the upcoming years on the UNESCO serie :
