Hello my friends, does anyone know how to identify this coin?
10.5g - 34mm

Sorry you got no reactions on this one, Boak. It looks interesting, but there is so much detail gone. My first impression was late Scythian, but I couldn't find anything like it. Perhaps by plowing through the Zeno data base you'll find something like it.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Sorry, I missed this one the first time round.

I think it is related to the coins of the Chandras of Arakan, c.327-957 AD. The upper image is the reverse, and shows a stylised trident, whilst the bottom image (which should be rotated 180 degrees) is the obverse and shows a stylised conch shell with 'legs' on the sides, making it look rather like an insect. On the only ones I can find illustrations for the 'legs' are more like commas and are described as leaves. Yours would be quite heavy for these, as it has obviously lost perhaps 25% of its bulk, so may be earlier than those shown. Robinson & Shaw say the earlier units probably weighed c.9.5-10 gm, and the coins they show are half and possibly quarter units.

I attach a scan from Robinson and Shaw's 'The coins and banknotes of Burma', p.18, and refer you to numbers 3.17 and 3.19.
