Below you see an example of the Isle of Man pound coin of the year 2000.

It has a mint mark "PMM", above the "p" of "pound".

This stands for Pobjoy Mint (PM), as usual, with another "M" for "Millennium".

The extra "M" was not used on pound coins after the year 2000.

Below you see an example of the Isle of Man pound coin of 2003.

It has the normal mint mark: "PM".

However, notice the musical notes coming out of the bell on the left.

They look different from those the year 2000 version and are positioned differently.

Are these bells playing a different tune?   :)

Notice also that the legs look slightly wider or thicker.

Interesting observation. The difference can indeed also be seen very clearly in the top 2 feet. The design appears to have been slightly altered after 2000, because the 2001 and 2002-dated pieces that I have seen look the same as the 2003-dated piece that can be seen above.

Very interesting to see the two different reverses to make the comparison, but also to be able to see pictures of these coins in such good condition.  The ones I've come across in change back in the day (and which are in my collection) always seemed to be really battered.

Nice to know that these old coins do actually circulate.
