British Antarctic Territory: Polar zone 2 pounds coin 2021

Earlier this year, Pobjoy Mint was planning to release a monometallic silver 2 pound coin to commemorate the polar zone. The coin was to have a mintage of 3,000 pieces. For unknown reasons, it was never issued. It was likely planned as part of a 2-coin series together with the unrealised Subpolar zone 2 pound coin of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, that was sheduled for release in 2020.

The design depicts an Antarctic Orca Whale swimming in the Antarctic Ocean with an iceberg in the shape of Antarctica in the background. An Antarctic Fur Seal is show sitting on an ice pack.
