it was rumoured that both 50p and 1Re may be dropped.
50p actually dropped.
1Re de facto dropped.
The series is not rain drops but Grains depicting agriculture theme,. See post #81 in the same topic.

The quantity of 1Re minted in those two years is substantial so can not be for VIPs alone.
Could be no demand by distributing organisations.
Perhaps lying in warehouses some where.
The quantity indented in 2021-22 shows that the order was not as per demand but uniformly distributed across the denominations, just to ensure some work for the mints.

I remember this thread now, even my comments are there on it. Even the post #83 does show the actual Rupee 1 coin which was released. Its pretty evident that last definitive series Rupee 1 coins were minted probably, but for some reason not distributed in general circulation.

According to my source in RBI, the issue was reluctance of commercial banks to undertake distribution of coins.
Ever since the retail distribution of coins was stopped as per advice of World bank economist turned RBI governor, the distribution logistics went topsy turvy. The situation reached a critical stage when mints had no spare capacity in their warehouses and SPMCIL had to halt minting.
Now the commission payable to banks for distribution has been increased and apparently, post office network is gearing up to take up this work ( so special commission for rural distribution). May be stock piles of 1 Rupee coins ( more than 200 million pieces) will see the sun shine.
