Gaming token?

This odd but well made token is a mystery to me and I'm asking that someone help identify it. It's made from a center-holed US Kennedy half dollar with the obverse smoothed and stamped with characters I don't recognize.(Japanese perhaps?) I my first thought was a gaming token but that's just a wild guess. Any help is appreciated as always.

The images are of the same token but are different sizes because of problems resizing them.

My impression is that these are fantasy characters.

That could be, but do you have any thoughts on the purpose of the token?

It is obviously professionally made, originating in the US and perhaps with a limited knowledge of oriental script. My best GUESS would be part of a cosplay outfit.
