The title itself is kinda  self explanatory but here in india we have a huge number of coins with hooks which were used as pendants in past.Does it affect value i was looking to purchase a few decent quality ones with hooks so wanted the knowledgeable opinion of the group members . :) :)

If a coin is used in jewellery, it will normally lose desirability, for several reasons. First, the coin rubs against clothing when the jewellery is worn. Sometimes, the wear is even on one side only. Second, jewellery is likely to be cleaned in an abrasive way, taking off metal and destroying detail each time it is cleaned. In bad cases, the coin loses all numismatic value and is best left in the jewellery.

The way a coin is fastened to the rest of the jewellery will usually increase the damage. Obviously, a hole can at best be hidden, not repaired. Quite rare coins may be acceptable, even holed, though. Adding fixation points, such as hooks or rings will normally leave traces, even if the solder can be removed. Frames will cause wear and possibly scratches where the clasps held the coin.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
