This was described on an auction site as a "GB Euro token". If someone could explain to me exactly what it is I'd appreciate it. Many thanks.

Its a fantasy piece - not a token :)
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

There was a whole series of such euro fantasies, for various countries, in similar style. All totally unofficial, of course.

They didn't look official to me but I'm not that familiar with the euros. Was there any particular purpose for issuing them that you know of? Thanks for the info.

There were a series of sets for all sorts of places ¬ that will likely never issue Euro's,
this website has a nice list,

These were produced for sale to collectors. They are fantasy pieces. This specific piece was designed by an obscure artist, Donald R. Golder, who seems to have designed a lot of unofficial stuff but also some foreign collectors coins.

Thanks for all the good info. I had a feeling it had something to do with money ;D
