Hi All,
The most lasting symbol of Shah Jahan indeed for Mughals  for some is Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in Agra as a tomb for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. But did she die in Agra?

Of course not. Mumtaz Mahal accompanied Shah Jahan on his Deccan campaign and died on 17th June 1631 in Burhanpur while giving birth to their 14th child! She was temporarily buried in a walled garden called Zainabad before finally being buried in Taj Mahal the following year.
Nisars are known to have been distributed on death of Royal family members. The purpose was to get blessings and prayers for her  eternal rest and judged favourably on the day of judgement. If there is one nisar that fits the bill to have been minted on this occasion is the one posted below.

The nisar is a quarter rupee dated 1040AH (1631AD) and 3rd regnal year. Mint is Baldah Burhanpur (Town of Burhanpur)

Obverse - Nisar Shah Jahan Badshah ghazi 1040
Reverse- Zarb Baldah Burhanpur Ry3.
