I already thought the Pride 50p looked very tattoo-ish, and recently I read to my surprise that The Royal Mint indeed let a tattoo artist design the coin. Only queer people were invited to submit a design for the coin. The artist, Dominique Holmes, initially had mixed feelings about The Royal Mint's idea to issue a coin with this theme as she feared 'corporate pinkwashing'. Following the release of the coin, The Royal Mint donated 40,000 pounds of public funds to the company that runs the pride in London event.

The Royal Mint has released a special commemorative 20 pence coin for the 40th anniversary of the UK 20p coin. It is a standard shield 20p coin with an added  privymark '40' on its obverse. The coin is only available in a set combined with 3 previously issued 20p coins for 32.50 pounds. It can be bought here.

Here's what happened when UK Prime Minister Mrs. Thatcher was given a preview of the forthcoming 20 pence coin and round pound coin in December 1980.

Hilarious. It reads like a TV comedy series. At least Ms. Thatcher was able to give up her ideas quickly when she was shown to be wrong. I had bosses with that approach (none that rapid fire speed, though) who couldn't give up on a silly idea. I love the story of how the (deputy) mint master sold her two gold coins.

I am somewhat surprised that nothing was issued for the UEFA Women's Championship win of England. Certainly now that the mint is being run by a feminist, I had expected they would have at least re-issued some coin in special packaging.

Should Her Majesty pass away shortly, would the Harry Potter series be issued with her portrait or restruck with Charles' portrait?

I do expect that they will be restruck, though now that she has unfortunately died, I am not sure that The Royal Mint will get around to issuing Harry Potter coins any time soon.

eurocoin, any thoughts on the five-coin set for the 25th anniversary of the £2 Coin and the accompanying issue of the Technological Achievement design?
