The Platinum Jubilee 50p was also released in special Royal Mint packaging for children who complete The Queen's Green Canopy RFS Junior Forester Award, an initiative in which people are being encouraged to plant a tree to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee. 7,000 pieces will be distributed this way.

In contrary to what was mentioned earlier, The Royal Mint will not re-issue 15 previously issued commemorative 2 pound coins, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the bimetallic 2 pound coin. Instead, it has selected 15 previously issued commemorative 2 pound coins of which collectors are allowed to choose 5, which will be reminted with the date 2022. On this page people are allowed to vote for which 5 coins will be reminted.

The 15 previously issued coins that were selected by The Royal Mint, amongst which collectors can choose are:

- Brunel
- Florence Nightingale
- Robert Burns
- Charles Darwin
- DNA
- Marconi Telegraph
- St Paul's Cathedral
- Charles Dickens
- William Shakespeare (cap and bells with jester's stick)
- First World War (Dreadnought)
- Lord Kitchener
- First World War (War in the air)
- Jane Austen
- Frankenstein
- D-Day

The Royal Mint has already obtained permission of the Palace to remint the 15 selected coins, now collectors can choose the 5 coins that will actually be reminted.

DNA got my vote.

eurocoin - do you know if they will be issued individually or as a five-coin set?

I will leave the poll for the British collectors, but otherwise I would have voted for:

Centenary of First World War - Aviation

Proclamation published 22 April for a 25th anniversary issue of the £2 bi-metallic coin - 'Technological Achievement.'

'For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription "· ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 2 POUNDS ·" and the date of the year, and for the reverse a design in four concentric circles representing stages in technological development from the Iron Age to the modern computer, with the words "TWO POUNDS" and the date "1997". The coins shall have a grained edge and in incuse letters the inscription "STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS" save for the gold coin where the incuse letters shall be accompanied by a plain edge.'

I don't understand why it is only dated 1997 though. However, the obverse lettering was never used on a Technology 2 pound coin as far as I know, so it does differ from the Technology 2 pound coins that were issued in the past.

Deeman

Looks like it will be dual dated, 2022 on obverse and 1997 on reverse.

The following 5 previously issued commemorative 2 pound coins received the most votes: Jane Austen, Charles Darwin, DNA, The Royal Navy, and First World War - Aviation. These coins will be re-minted with the date 2022 and special edge lettering, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the bimetallic 2 pound coin.

There is also the special tooth fairy 50p which is a standard issue coin but with a small mint mark on the reverse

A nice monometallic error piece of the 2 pound coin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the FA Cup was found by a collector. The piece is a BU version in an original Royal Mint BU pack.
