From 7 February, 1.3 million pieces of the Platinum Jubilee 50p with the Jody Clark obverse will be released through the post offices. Only people who buy something at the post offices may get one in change. The coin itself has a maximum mintage of 5,000,070 pieces. Whether the latter means that more pieces could potentially be released into circulation through the post offices, cash centres or whether the other pieces are in collectors editions like BU packs is unknown.

A friend was so kind to enquire with The Royal Mint for me and they have written that 5,000,070 pieces of the Platinum Jubilee 50p with the Jody Clark obverse were minted for general circulation. From 7 February 1,300,000 pieces become available through the post offices. The remainder will stay at The Royal Mint and will be released into circulation whenever there is demand for 50p coins from the post offices or the cash centres.

The Garter Belt that appears on the special platinum anniversary obverse replicates the belt that appeared on the George III's shillings of 1816 following the great recoinage.

A special version of the 2022-dated shield 50p was released to commemorate the tooth fairy. The coin has an added star on the right side of the design. It will not be released into general circulation.

Believe the tooth fairy coins commenced in Canada in 2011 - a proper coin, not a miniscule star privy mark added to an ugly circulation coin.

Today only, the Platinum Jubilee 50p with the Queen on horseback as obverse is the Strike Your Own coin at The Royal Mint Experience. The packaging also differs from that of the SYO of the Platinum Jubilee 50p with the Jody Clark portrait.

So we have confirmation it is obverse designed by John Bergdahl.  Thanks!

As of today, the Platinum Jubilee 50p coins can be found in change if you purchase something at the post office. As mentioned before, more pieces will be released in general circulation later.
