The contract that the Royal Mint of Belgium has with the Royal Dutch Mint for the production of all Belgian coins will expire at the end of this year. Royal Dutch Mint obtained the contract in 2017 after winning a tender for the coin production from 2018 upto and including 2021. So far no new tender has been launched. It is also not yet very urgent as, under the terms of the contract, Royal Mint of Belgium has the right to place coinage orders with Royal Dutch Mint until 31 December 2021, which the Royal Dutch Mint will have to fulfill even if the actual delivery of the coins will then take place outside of the duration of the contract (in 2022).

A few days ago, the Belgian government started 2 tender procedures. One for the production of all Belgian coins for the next 4 years, and the other for the sale of the coins to collectors. The coin minting tender stipulates that the full production of the Belgian coins has to take place within the European Union.

Update: Message edited after Royal Mint of Belgium has published an erratum/clarification of the tender documents.

Royal Dutch Mint has won the tender for the production of the coins of Belgium for the next 4 years, 2022-2025. According to the Royal Mint of Belgium, regarding the exploitation of commemorative and collectible coins and medals, the signing of a licence agreement with an operator is still pending.
