I have no idea about variety of these thalers while saw this type for the first time. Even I don't know if it is fake or genuine. Whatever, I have given the coin a name '... religious version!'
Mass 27.26 g, while my genuine copy weighs 28.09 g.
Experts on this coin may throw light on it. Thanks in advance!

It looks good enough at first sight, but that is always hard to judge from a photo.

The addition is quite interesting. I think you are very close to the motivation for the alteration. Numismatic lore has it that part of the popularity in West Asia of the MT Thaler was her open front dress. However, a specialised collector of MT Thalers once fulminated that it was all a legend. However, this piece is prima facie evidence that the fashionable dress did have an impact, as the perpetrator of the change has changed the headdress to a veil. Incidentally, Maria Theresa was wearing the headdress as a sign of widowhood. What remains is a chicken and egg problem. What came first? The alleged legend or the reaction on the open fronted dress?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
