Among the specialised, Dugniolle is the must have book on the 15th to 18th century counters issued in the Southern (now Belgium) and Northern Netherlands. Unfortunately, Dugniolle, printed in 1876, is very difficult to impossible to find, even in libraries and impossibly expensive to acquire when found. Yet, the series is very interesting, as it was used for propaganda warfare at a time of the Dutch revolt, becoming an ultimately successful war of independence - a war interwoven with the reformation and counter-reformation in Western Europe.

On the site http://www.dugniolle.com is the solution. It gives you three options to get access to the four heavy volumes: use the searchable online data base gratis, get an electronic version for your own computer for €8  or get a printed version for €100. The text is in French, but as usual in numismatic books, that's not a deal breaker. Dugniolle lists over 4900 types. The books contain 4990 illustrations. Many illustrations show pieces in the Dutch national numismatic collection, which is not on view or consultable.
