Yes, it's clearly inspired by the chinese zodiac.
I notice that some signs are (till now..) never seen on a persian or an afghan civic copper, I have spotted them on the attached table :
green = ok / red = not found (mais be not surprising for the pig.. but more for the rooster ?)

Interesting. I wonder if the rooster is what we usually describe as a peacock. Similarly, perhaps the animal in front of the sun doubles as a zodiacal tiger? As for the pig, it is too smart to complain about not being noticed ;)
