To commemorate the 2021 Olympic games in Tokyo, Gibraltar will issue a series of 5 commemorative 50p coins.

Let's hope the series ends at five. There are 33 different sports in total and it would be just like Gibraltar to cover all of them.

Are there any Gibraltarian Olympic athletes involved in these specific sports depicted on these coins?

Anyway I just discovered by researching on the net that former horse race track has been situated on the grounds of the current GiB airport (or rather perhaps on the southern RAF base side) and there is racehorse named Rock of Gibraltar in NI :)

The other "summer" sport discipline i am interested in is cycling, but I only recall the Cavendish 50p from IoM in relation to that :)

A bit slightly OT, but still of interest -> meanwhile in Japan local people have their say about the "2020" Games: https://japantoday.com/category/tokyo-2020-olympics/Nurses-say-they-are-needed-elsewhere-not-at-Tokyo-Olympics

No.

The coins will be produced by the Pobjoy Mint. The silver versions will cost 62 pounds each. The price of base-metal versions is still unknown.

The 5-coin series is now available from Pobjoy Mint here. I do not know whether they will also be released into general circulation.
