I recently bought the following three similar half pagoda coins. They were listed as local imitations of Vijayanagar Venkatapati Raya III coins. I can read parts of the script on the reverse, but it does not seem to make any sense. The script is on three lines.

First Line "ka raa"
Second line "so ma"
Third line "la raa"

There are some missing letters. Is what I am reading correct? What missing letters would the script a meaningful phrase?
May be a "ya" at the end of the third line would make it "Raaya".

Thanks!

Interesting coins, gsrctr. If they are local imitations, it is not surprising if the text makes no sense. That happens quite often, especially if the imitator is illiterate or unfamiliar with the script used on the coin. Since those receiving the coins may also be illiterate or using another script, getting the texts right is not very important for the imitator.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
