Swissmint just issued two new collector coins: a bimetallic 10 fr piece from the domestic forest animals series featuring a fox, and a silver 20 fr coin that honors Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Both have a diameter of 33 mm.

The 10 fr coin is a Cu-Ni and aluminum-bronze piece was designed by Naomi Giewald. Mintage 28,000 und and 5,500 proof. Prices start at 20 CHF for the regular version; in a folder it costs 30 CHF, and the proof piece is 40 CHF.

The 20 fr coin, designed by Remo Mascherini is silver (Ag 835), and commemorates the author Friedrich Dürrenmatt who was born 100 years ago. The price is 30 CHF (unc), 40 CHF (BU/folder) or 60 CHF (proof).

Each of the coins (Images: Swissmint) can also be had in a prrof version with a certificate signed by the coin designer. Those cost a little more ...

Dürrenmatt is very high up on my list of favorite writers. Wiki compares him to Brecht. I would prefer to compare him to Kafka. Whatever the case, I think he is a literary giant. Is that enough for a commemorative?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Too bad that the two cute fox "pups" on the second page of the flyer (PDF) did not make it to the coin. ;)  But I do like those paw prints on the ring!

Talking about wolves, here are wolves from Slovakia. I think Slovakia did a better job, may be also because they had more area to play with (Slovakian coin is 40mm in diameter). Had Slovakia issued the same design in a bimetallic version, I am not sure if it would have looked better or same as the monometallic version...
