Milestones in the decimal coinage of the Falkland Islands

In 2014 the Falkland Islands issued a circulating commemorative 2 pounds coin.

It commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Falkland Islands.

Obverse of the 1 penny coin of 2019.


In 2019 the Falkland Islands issued a new version of the penny.

The obverse carried a new portrait of the Queen.

Reverse of the 1 penny coin of 2019.


The reverse carried a slightly amended version of the previous design.

The two Gentoo penguins now came somewhat closer to the rim.

The designer's initials had now disappeared from the lower right.

Finally, the font was now serif and slightly thinner.

The 2 pence coin of 2019.


A new 2 pence coin was also issued in 2019.

The obverse carried the new portrait of the Queen.


The goose design on the reverse was slightly amended.

The designer's initials were omitted from the reverse design.

The reverse legend was positioned somewhat differently and the font was slightly different.

Curiously, the obverse carried yet another new portrait of the Queen, by Raphael Maklouf.

The reverse retained the sea lions design but lost the designer's initials.

The new portrait of the Queen graced the obverse.

The 50 pence coin that is part of this amended series will not be produced until in 2021.
