I like the designs, and I would like to get them in my collection someday, but I wouldn't chase them one by one. So I hope the UK mint will issue some BU set after the 27 designs have been released.  ???

Has anyone spotted any other variations apart from the swimmers face on the aquatics 50p?

And two more 2012 Crown Coins available at x3 face value.

One of the Olympics and one for the Paralympics.

The bunching up of the letters around the queen's portrait made me ask, who is Greg, and what verb does D stand for? Did? Does? Dislikes? Destroys? Hmm! Yeah, more rubbish £5 coins not to collect and make me wonder why I bothered in the first place? Well they were £5 back in the day and now they're worth £6, I'm rich!

I tried to book the set while I was in london last sept...it was 85pounds + 2.99 post. Luckily the system refused sending to my London office address because of my Indian credit card. When I did change it to post to India, the total dropped to 77 pounds (67 pounds + 10 pounds postage)....I was shocked! Brits are paying around 20% VAT!!

The discussion of VAT and similar taxes has been moved here. :)

So what does everyone think of the designs of the new kilo gold and silver coins that have been issued by the UK for 2012.  Pictures available here: http://www.royalmint.com/olympicgames/London-2012-kilo-coins.aspx?src=hm_SmallBanner_2012Kilo.

Personally, my first thought is "yuk"....

Thoughts please....?

Can I swear here? Luckily these coins were never going to be for me, I'm not rich enough. The gold one is especially rubbish. The silver one has the same lettering from the £5 coin to celebrate the queens something or other back a few years. Hardly worth the money at 3 times silver prices!

Would anyone defend that these are coins?

Royal Mint is selling the entire set for half price for last one month or so..so it seems that there's lttle demand for these. Yet another lesson for hoarders and investors..

BTW Indian collectors can get the set for £37.29 as VAT is not applicable for Indian buyers..(Postage is extra though which is £12.5 irrespective of number of coins bought)
